Normal Attacks (Weak/Strong)
Press the □ button for weak attacks, and press the △ button for strong attacks.
Depending on your distance from the opponent, these will automatically change between close or long-ranged attacks.
Chain Attack
Pressing a combination of □ or △ buttons after landing a weak attack will result in a chain attack.
*Close or long-ranged weak attacks will work.
Dash Attack
Pressing the △ button while dashing will result in a dash attack.
Hitting an opponent with a dash attack will send them flying into the wall.
Throw / Throw Break
Pressing the X button near an opponent will result in an unblockable throw attack.
This attack will also decrease your opponent's Spirit Gauge.
If your opponent attempts a throw, pressing the X button at the right time will result in a throw break.
*Throw break cannot be used on air-throws or any throws that are part of special moves.
Air-Throw
While in the air, press X near an opponent to execute an air-throw attack.
This attack will also decrease your opponent's Spirit Gauge.
Special Moves
Pressing the ○ button will execute a special move unique to each character.
Using special moves will decrease your Spirit Gauge, and if it gets low enough your special moves will be significantly weaker until it recovers.
Pressing one of the directional keys in conjunction with the ○ button will result in a different special move. Also, certain characters can follow-up with additional attacks if you press the button again after landing the first hit.
*Special moves and their additional attacks differ greatly between each character.
○ Psycho Ball Attack
↓+○ Psycho Sword
EX Special Moves
When your Supporter uses a specific item, your Attacker will be able to use powered-up EX versions of their special moves for 5 seconds. During this time, your Spirit Gauge will not be depleted by using special moves.
Dream Finish
This is a powerful attack that can be executed by pressing R1 and/or R1 + down on the directional keys when you have a certain amount of spirit.
This attack consumes more Spirit Gauge than normal special moves, but also deals big damage if it hits.
This move is also key to winning the match, as you need to land it on an opponent whose Life Gauge is in the red to win the battle.
*Certain characters can also execute a mid-air Dream Finish by pressing R1 while jumping.
Tag
Pressing the R2 button will allow you to tag between your Attacker and Supporter.
Your character will be invincible during the tag animation, however they will be left open for a brief moment after tagging in so be careful!
Your Supporter will recover Spirit Gauge at a faster rate, and will also affect the SP items you can use.
It is possible to cancel into a tag by activating it while your character is performing an attack on the ground (excluding Dream Finish attacks) which will also deplete the Spirit Gauge of the character tagging in.
Guard
Holding L1 will cause your character to guard.
Guarding against consecutive attacks from an opponent will cause the shield color to change, and eventually a Guard Crush will occur.
When a Guard Crush occurs, your character will be left stunned and defenseless for a short period.
*The shield will recover if you stop guarding for a specific amount of time.
Evasion (Forward/Backward)
Pressing left or right on the directional keys while holding L1 will execute an evasive roll either forward or backwards.
Your character is invincible during the move, however they will be left open once it finishes.
Guard Cancel Evasion
While guarding against an opponent's attack, pressing either left or right on the directional buttons will allow your character to cancel into an evasive roll.
*Guard Cancel Evasion will deplete your Spirit Gauge.
Air Evasion
Pressing L1 while in the air will result in your character evading backwards.
It is possible to avoid air-throws using this technique.
Recovery
When you are knocked down, pressing L1 just as you hit the ground will allow your character to immediately recover.
(Holding L1 after you are sent flying will also work)
Pressing either left or right on the directional keys will allow you to control the direction you recover in.
If you do not press a direction, your character will recover on the same spot as they fell.
Air-Dash
Quickly pressing right on the directional buttons twice in the air will execute an air-dash, allowing your character to quickly close the distance.
Item Usage
Pressing either up or down on the R stick with an item in stock will allow your character to use it in battle.
For some items, pressing left or right on the R stick will even allow you to direct where it is placed or thrown.
How to pick-up items
Destroying the item boxes that appear in stages will award your team with an item. Fulfilling the following conditions during battle will also award you with an item.
*You can only hold one item at a time, so you can't receive a new item while holding another item.
However, SP items are the one exception, as they will replace the item you are holding.
