STORY OF KOF 2000
The existence of the mysterious secret cartel NESTS was brought to light during KOF '99; however, ever since the demise of Krizalid, its activities have come to a standstill.
In contrast, terrorist activities throughout the world have been escalating rapidly. Heidern and his band of mercenaries have determined these incidents to be the handiwork of K´ and Maxima. They mount their pursuit of the duo, with the intent to end their misdeeds.
But just then, word goes out announcing the latest King of Fighters...
Weeks later, the tournament begins with fighters facing off in locations worldwide. To everyone's shock, K´ and Maxima are listed among the invited teams. Moreover, as if lured in by the presence of these "terrorists," NESTS has sprung back into action!
Is this mere coincidence—or could it be a warning of more to come?
A sense of impending turmoil looms on the horizon as the curtain rises on another King of Fighters!
